Ride on shooting star

Millions of years after the original release of FLCL, a certain character (and a certain black kitten) are now available for pre-order at J-List.

FLCL is one of my favourite anime series of all time. Mix surrealism, robots and space together and you have sufficiently grabbed my attention. That said, the last time I watched the show was about ten years ago. But the surreal madness has stayed with me. And Canti/Takkun were my favourite characters.

There was a time on LJ (for several years) when all I used were icons I created from FLCL... all 40 of them.

So this is how I looked when I saw the figure...

And then I think about how much money I'd be spending on an inanimate object in order to manifest a material version of a concept I love, and about how I'm saving all of my monies for houses and holidays and ninja butlers and I'm all:

But then I'm all:

Finally I settle on:

Because really I have nothing to complain about, I just wanted to pic-spam you all. Also that guy with the cat is one of my new favourite things on the internet.

Hahaha. I think you should go for it. Sometimes you just have to make a foolish purchase if you know you'll get real joy from the purchase. ^_^

I was exactly the same when I saw a Street Fighter artbook in a closing sale. It was about $60. 'Don't make stupid impulse buys,' I told myself. 'You don't need it. Don't be a geek.' Then I started to want it. I looked for it in every comic shop and bookshop, and couldn't find it. Even online, it was scarce. Finally, I found it online. Still $60, and it took almost 3 months to arrive (what were they sending it by, inflatable raft mail?). But I'm so happy I have it. ^_^

Also, I have never seen FLCL but I liked the Pillows songs I found from it. ^_^

Ahh, yes! The soundtrack! It's fantastic! I love the Pillows tracks, they're so ear-wormy after a while.

I watched FLCL while very sick in first year university, and my wooziness combined with the surreal plot made for a very strange day (all episodes combined, it's a little over two hours long). Man, that was back in the days when I was still borrowing VHS tapes from friends... that was probably one of the last things I watched on VHS.

I tend not to be one for merchandise, but if Xenoblade Chronicles merch exists, I may need a Fiora figurine...

Because I'm saving so intently for my various long-term goals, every little purchase like this represents an extra few days, or weeks, that I'll have to save before I reach my goal. Plus, I try not to buy many physical objects these days - it would mean I'd have to keep them clean and tidy!

And once or twice I've purchased merchandise from a show (that had no secondary function, so not a shirt or a cup etc, purely decorative) and then while I maintain fond memories of that show, I end up putting the decorative bits and bobs into a box because they're getting in the way of things more important to me.

I used to have quite a few plushies, but I've now just got one green griffin, one green dragon, and one maroon squid. They're my core party ^_^ The rest have been given to friends with children, or donated to charity.

That said, I do love that robot, and given how excited I was by this without even having watched the show in the last many years, maybe this would be a decoration I'd genuinely enjoy in the long term.

It might serve a practical purpose as something to help you at work. A former colleague kept a figurine on his desk ostensibly for that reason, though I never saw him talking to it.

No Mamimi, no sale.

That's the way it goes.

I've ended up pre-ordering it c_c

If they released a Mamimi with school satchel and tiny handheld Gameboy-analogue I would be sorely tempted...
